MSCR RECAP: Playoff-Bound Gryphons Wrap Up Regular Season with 2-2 Draw versus Laurier

GUELPH, Ont. – The playoff-bound Gryphons men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season portion of their 2025 schedule on Friday night (Oct. 10) with a 2-2 draw at home against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. The Gryphons jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Laurier, with Guelph opening the scoring in the 38th minute on a converted penalty from third-year midfielder, Jacob Cabral (Mississauga, ON). The Gryphons would double their lead early in the 2nd half, with fourth-year standout Ambrose Tinmouth (Comox, BC) making it 2-0 Guelph in the 48th minute. But the Golden Hawks would battle back to earn the draw with goals of their own in the 58th and 84th minutes of play to leave Guelph with a share of the points.

With the result, the Gryphons finish the 12-game regular season schedule with 17 points, with a record of 4-3-5 (wins-losses-draws). The playoff-bound Gryphons will either be the No. 4-seed or the No. 5-seed within the OUA West Division when the 2025 OUA playoffs get underway. Guelph will be keeping a close eye on the result of Saturday night's (Oct. 11) matchup between McMaster and Brock in Hamilton, which will determine whether the Gryphons are hosting a playoff game on Wednesday, Oct. 15 or on the road for the opening round of playoffs.
