GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's soccer team got their 2024 campaign off to a flying start, with a 4-0 home win over the Waterloo Warriors on Thursday night (Aug. 29) at the University of Guelph's Gryphon Soccer Complex. Fourth-year forward, Olivia Brown (Guelph, ON) opened the scoring for the Gryphons with a goal in 14th minute of play. It marked the first of the season for Brown, who was named an OUA First Team All-Star back in 2022 and recorded 4 goals for the Gryphons a season ago. It was the beginning of a dominant opening 45 minutes of play for the Gryphons, with team captain Olivia Rizakos adding two more, with goals in the 18th minute and 21st minute, respectively.
 
The Gryphons would extend their lead to 4-0 early in the 2nd half, with freshman winger Isabella Trepanier (Belle River, ON) scoring in her OUA debut in the 53rd minute to cap the scoring in an impressive season-opening victory for the Gryphons. U of G second-year goalkeeper, Sabrina Spano, made three saves while recording her first clean sheet of the 2024 season.
 
The Gryphons (1-0-0) will look to carry the momentum from their season-opening win into the weekend, with a road trip to Windsor up next, as the Gryphons prepare to face the Lancers on Sunday, Sept. 1 at the University of Windsor. Kick off is set for 2pm and can be seen live online at www.oua.tv.
