The Gryphons (1-0) are coming off a 38-25 win over the Carleton Ravens in Week 1 in front of 1,350 fans in attendance at Alumni Stadium. The team will look to go to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2015, the same year in which the Gryphons hoisted the Yates Cup. The Varsity Blues are next up for the Gryphons and they too are coming off a Week 1 win. Marshall McCray vs Carleton [Week 1 - Aug 24, 2024]Toronto came away with a 31-29 road win against the Waterloo Warriors. First-year starter Kaleb O'Donoghue leads the way for the Varsity Blues offence as he opened up his season going 19-28 for 268 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Joseph was one of O'Donoghue's main targets as he made six catches for 120 yards catching both touchdown passes in the win. This matchup will feature two first-year head coaches with Mark Surya leading the Gryphon sideline and Darrell Adams (former Waterloo Warriors defensive coordinator) opposing him on the Toronto sideline.

The Gryphons will look to carryover their offensive performance in the win where they finished with 513 total yards of offence. The run game in Week 1 was led by Donavin Milloy, who ran for 137 yards on 17 carries (8.1 yards-per-carry). Expect the run game to see plenty of action after the Gryphons averaged 7.3 yards per carry in their matchup last season. Marshall McCray will look to repeat his outstanding performance in the win where he had a touchdown on the ground and through the air. The U of G defence will look to repeat their performance against the Varsity Blues last season as they held them 190 total yards of offence. Braeden MacDougall vs U of TBraeden MacDougall will be a key player for the Gryphon defence as he tallied 7.5 tackles to open his season.

The last meeting between the Gryphons and Varsity Blues took place in Week 1 last season on August 26, 2023 where the Gryphons came away with a 33-10 win at Alumni Stadium. Guelph has won the last eight meetings against Toronto and lead the overall series 26-9-1.
