WHKY RECAP: Gryphons Bounce Back with 3-0 Shutout Over Gee-Gees

GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team bounces back as they shutout the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 on Saturday night (Nov. 16) from the Gryphon Centre Arena. Guelph improves to 7-3-0 on the season with the win, while Ottawa drops to 6-6-0. The Gryphons were back on the ice one night following their loss to the No. 7-ranked Nipissing Lakers a night ago and they got off to a great start peppering the Ottawa net, outshooting the visitors from the nation's capital 15-4 in the opening period. The Gryphons would get rewarded for all their hard work late in the period as first year forward Myriam Parnell put the puck on net and circles around the net until the puck lands on her stick as she backhands the opening goal of the game into the net for her second goal of the season to put the hosts in front. The score would remain 1-0 until late in the third period when the Guelph would crash the net with a loose puck in the crease as the Gee-Gee's covered the puck in the crease to give the hosts a penalty shot. Chihiro Suzuki, the Yokohama, Japan native would add the insurance marker on the penalty shot to make it 2-0 as she tucked her backhand shot just past the left pad of Mireille Kingsley and inside the right post. Maeve Sutherland-Case (Hamilton, ON) would put this out of reach as she scored into the empty net for her fifth goal of the season to clinch the 3-0 win. Guelph goalie Martina Fedel made 24 saves for her third shutout of the season, while Marielle Kingsley stopped 33 shots in the loss for Ottawa. The Gryphons (7-3-1) will be back in action on Thursday night (Nov. 21) when they make a trip to the old Maple Leaf Gardens to take on the TMU Bold. Puck drop from Toronto is scheduled for 6:15pm and can be seen live online on oua.tv.
