TORONTO, Ont. – On Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26), the Gryphons field hockey team advanced to the OUA Championship game, defeating the York Lions 2-1 in OUA semifinal play in Toronto.
The Gryphons would fall behind early as the Lions would score five minutes into the match to take an early 1-0 lead. The lead would hold up until the 42nd minute when the Gryphons were able to equalize as second-year forward
Sophie Pomeroy would capitalize with a rush into the Lions zone, scoring easily on a pretty passing play to tie it up at 1-1. Both teams would trade chances from that point forward but neither side could score sending the match to a shootout after 60 minutes were unable to determine a winner.

It would be the Gryphons who would come out victorious in the four-round shootout, thanks to first-year goalkeeper,
Macy Peters. The Kitchener native came up big in the shootout stopping 3 of the 4 shots she saw, leading Guelph to a 3-1 win in the shootout.
Elly Peters,
Delaney Jacklin and
Harper Griffin scored in the shootout helping send the Gryphons through to the gold medal game. The win snaps a two-game losing streak to the Lions in the OUA semifinal round for the Gryphs.
The Gryphons field hockey team will now play the Waterloo Warriors in Sunday's (Oct. 27) gold medal game, after the Warriors upset the top-seeded Toronto Varsity Blues in the other semifinal. The start time for the OUA Championship game is scheduled for 2:30pm at the Back Campus Fields on the campus of the University of Toronto.
