GUELPH, Ont. – On Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26), the Gryphons hung in for three quarters against the reigning Wilson Cup champions before Gaels would pull away in the 4
th quarter as the Gryphs would fall in their home opener by a score of 97-81.
Third year forward
Eric Armstrong got the Gryphons off to a great start, scoring the team's first 10 points of the game helping give the team the early lead as they would make 12 shots on 60% shooting in the quarter while holding the Gaels to 7 field goals to head to the second frame leading 28-22. But a 29% shooting performance would see the defending champs lead by 5 at the half. The Gryphons were able to keep the score at a two possession in the third quarter, only trailing by six. The fourth quarter would see the Queen's defence ramping up their press defence affecting the young Gryphons team, forcing them into 10 turnovers and outscoring the Gryphs 23-13 in the quarter, handing the hosts their 2
nd loss of the season.
Eric Armstrong led all scorers with 23 points, making 10 out of 15 shot and
Shaathon Walker reached double figures with 12 points in the game.
Emmanuel Black had a great game coming off the bench as he finished with a 13 point, 13 rebound double-double.
