TORONTO, Ont. – The playoff-bound, No. 8-ranked Gryphon football team wrapped up their 2024 OUA regular season schedule on Friday night (Oct. 11) with a 33-19 road win over the York Lions (2-5). The Gryphons jumped out to a 25-4 lead at the half and never looked back, with second-year quarterback
Tristan Aboud throwing for 470 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Second-year receiver
Willem Arseneau (4 catches, 162 yards, 2 TD) and fourth-year receiver
Vyshonne Janusas (5 catches, 144 yards, 1 TD) helped lead the way on a memorable offensive performance through the air for the Gryphons. The U of G defence racked up 6.5 sacks on the day against former Gryphon quarterback Shawn Lal, with
Robert Keyes-Wilson accounting for 2.5 sacks as well as a forced fumble on the night.
With the win, the Gryphons improve to 6-2 on the season, earning the right to host a home playoff game for the first time since 2019, with Guelph poised to host an OUA quarterfinal playoff game on October 26 (opponent to be determined). The Gryphons now head into their bye week, which happens to fall on the final week of the 2024 OUA regular season schedule. So the Gryphons will be idle next week (Oct. 19) and will patiently await to see who their October 26 playoff game will be against.
