GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's hockey team picked up another three points in the OUA standings, thanks to a 2-0 win over the TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University) Bold on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 13) at the Gryphon Centre Arena.
Vanessa Bueti opened the scoring the 1st period and assisted on a shorthanded goal from
Tiana Faccio in the 3rd period, to help the Gryphons improve to 16-1-2 on the season. First-year goalie, Sofie Helfenstein, needed to make just 10 saves on the afternoon for the shutout. With the loss, TMU fall to 3-14-2 on the season and remain at the bottom of the OUA women' s hockey standings.
The Gryphons, meanwhile, continue to sit atop of the OUA West Division standings, 16 points clear of the next closest team. But where the race really heats up, is in the battle for top overall spot in the conference, with Guelph (48 pts, 19 GP) and Nipissing (45 pts, 18 GP) continuing to go toe-to-toe for the OUA's top overall seed come playoff time. The Gryphons still have nine games remaining in their 28-game regular season schedule, and will return to action next Thursday night (Jan. 18) when they head to Western University for a road matchup versus the Mustangs.
