MHKY RECAP: Gryphons Pick Up 3-1 Win Over Waterloo on Alumni Day

GUELPH, Ont. – Alumni from the Gryphons men's hockey program in attendance on Saturday night at the Gryphon Centre were treated to a victory by the home team, with the Gryphons skating to a 3-1 home win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night at the Gryphon Centre. Rookie defenceman Ian Ferguson (Chatham, ON) opened the scoring for the Gryphons in the 1st period with the 2nd goal of his OUA career. After the Warriors tied the game at 1-1, the Gryphons would produce the game-winner on the power play in the 3rd period, with sophomore forward Nolan DeGurse scoring for a second straight night, with his 5th of the season giving the Gryphons a lead they would not relinquish. Emmett Gordon would add an empty netter late, to give the Gryphons a win on 'Hockeyday in Gryphonville' as part of the program's annual Alumni Day celebrations, with festivities including a shinny game with former Gryphon players earlier in the day. With the win on Saturday night, the Gryphons improve to 10-12-0 on the season, while the Waterloo Warriors fall to 3-16-1. The Gryphons will now shift their focus to one of the marquee events on the U SPORTS men's hockey calendar, with Guelph set to host the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Thursday, Jan. 18 at the Sleeman Centre in the 14th edition of 'The Frosty Mug.' Limited tickets are still available and can be purchased online at gryphons.ca/tickets.
