GUELPH, Ont. – Saturday at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons men's basketball team picked up a convincing 83-58 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds. Standout sophomore guard,
Dezayne Mingo, fell just short of recording the second triple-double of his Gryphon career, finishing the game with a team-high 19 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Fourth-year forward, Viktor Nausedas, put together another strong performance, scoring 18 points and pulling down 6 rebounds.
Emmanuel Ansah rounded out the Gryphons double-figure scorers, with the 6-foot-6 forward from Mississauga adding 17 points as part of an efficient Gryphon offensive attack, with the team shooting 49.3% from the floor. The win marked the Gryphons second straight victory over Algoma in less than 24 hours, with the two teams also having squared off on Friday night (Nov. 17), where it was Guelph earning an 89-79 victory. With the win on Saturday, the Gryphons improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Thunderbirds fall to 0-6. Up next for the Gryphons, a tough test against one of the hottest teams in the country, with the OUA West Division-leading Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (5-1) set to visit the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Laurier dropped their season opener, but have won five in a row since. The Gryphons will look to snap Laurier's win streak, with tip off at the GGAC set for 8pm on Wednesday, Nov. 22. The Gryphons will then make the short trip to Wilfrid Laurier University's campus on Saturday, November 25 to face the Golden Hawks in Waterloo.
