GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's volleyball team got their 2023-24 OUA regular season off to a strong start with a 3-sets-to-1 win over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night (Nov. 10) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Set scores were 25-16, 25-19, 22-25 & 25-11.
Leading the way for the Gryphons was second-year left side,
Sophia Kalbfleisch, who recorded a team-high 12 kills, while third-year setter,
Alexa Shields, picked up 48 assists in a convincing win for the Gryphons in a game that served as the 2023-24 OUA regular season opener for both teams. A balanced attack for the Gryphons saw six different players register double-figures in points, with Sam Ingleton (13 points, 10 kills, 2 blocks),
Mia Miskovic (12 points, 9 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace),
Briar Crerar (10 kills, 16 digs),
Hailey Holland (10 kills),
Alexa Shields (48 assists, 3 aces) and
Sophia Kalbfleisch (12 kills) all playing key roles for Guelph on the night.
The Gryphons (1-0) and Thunderwolves (0-1) will square off again on Saturday night (Nov. 11), with game time set for 6pm at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Tickets are available online at
