GUELPH, Ont. –
Malcolm Glanville's final home game as a Guelph Gryphon was one to remember. On Wednesday night (March 9), the Gryphons men's basketball team kept their playoff hopes alive thanks to a 108-100 win over the Western Mustangs (6-8). Gryphons senior guard,
Malcolm Glanville, stole the spotlight, setting a Gryphons men's basketball single-game scoring record by pouring in a career-high 44 points to help the Gryphons (5-8) pick up their fourth win in their last five games overall. With just one game remaining in their regular season schedule, the Gryphons will now head to London on Saturday (March 12 – 3pm) to face the Western Mustangs. With a win on Saturday, the Gryphons will be playoff-bound for a third consecutive season.
Fresh off of becoming just the 10th player in Gryphons men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point mark for his career on March 4 at Laurier,
Malcolm Glanville followed up that milestone with the best offensive performance of his Gryphon career. The marketing management major was red hot early on, helping the Gryphons take a seven-point lead into the locker room on the Mustangs, with Gryphon forward
Rasheed Weekes punctuating the opening half by banking in a three-pointer at the buzzer.

In the 3rd quarter, the Gryphon lead continued to grow, with the home team using a 10-0 run early in the second half to push their lead to 60-45. When the 3rd quarter came to a close, Glanville had already racked up 38 points. He would add six more in the final frame, to finish with 44 points, marking the second-highest single-game total in the OUA this season (behind only York's Prince Kamunga's 45 points versus Queen's on March 5). From a Guelph-standpoint, the 44-point performance marks the highest single-game total on record for the Gryphs, surpassing the previous record of 41 points (reached by Jay Mott on Feb. 10, 2010 and Henry Vandenberg on Feb. 25, 1978). Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Glanville's 44-point performance was just how efficient he was in reaching the total. The 6-foot-4 guard was 15-20 from the field, 12-15 from the free throw line, and 2-5 from beyond the arc. He also tacked on 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

For Glanville, whose previous career-high of 39 points was reached on two different occasions during the 2018-19 season, the performance on Wednesday night was the latest in a string of standout games.

The Scarborough, Ontario native now ranks 4th in the OUA in scoring with 22.4 points per game. While Glanville headlined the Gryphon performances, he certainly was not the only one to impress on the night. Fourth-year forward
Rasheed Weekes had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and was 4-6 from three-point range, including a three-pointer late in regulation to help end any hopes of a Western comeback. Fourth-year point guard,
Keenan Dowell, also played a big role, finishing with 18 points and 4 assists. As a team, the Gryphons shot a blistering 56.9% from the field (41-72) and will look to carry that hot shooting into London on Saturday (March 12) when they head to Western University for a "win-and-you're-in" regular season finale matchup versus the Mustangs. The game is set to tip at 3pm and can be seen live online at OUA.tv.
