GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons men's basketball team picked up their second win in as many days on Saturday afternoon at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, defeating the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds 96-73. After scoring 21 points on Friday night, Gryphons senior guard
Malcolm Glanville went right back to work on Saturday afternoon, scoring a team-high 21 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Glanville was the Gryphons lone graduating senior recognized prior to the game, with the Scarborough native give friends and family in attendance plenty to cheer about.
Fresh off of a 93-87 win over Algoma on Friday night, the Gryphons were able to shrug off a slow start to the game on Saturday afternoon, in which they were held to just 9 points in the opening quarter. From there on, it was all Gryphons, with the home team using a 22-2 run during the second quarter to take an eight-point lead into the half. In the second half, the Gryphons would continue to dominate at both ends of the floor, with the team exploding for 27 points in the 3rd quarter, and 32 more in the 4th quarter. Gryphons guard
Khalid Ismail (Toronto, ON) provided a spark off the bench, pouring in 19 points on 8-12 shooting while also grabbing 6 rebounds. Four of the Gryphons five starters scored in double figures, with forward
Rasheed Weekes registering a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds). With the win, the Gryphons improve to 3-7 on the season, with four games remaining in their 2021-22 OUA regular season schedule. The Gryphons will return to action on Wednesday night (March 2), when they host the hottest team in the OUA West Division, as the Laurier Golden Hawks (8-4) take their 6-game win streak into the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
