GUELPH, Ont. – Saturday night (Nov. 5) at the Gryphons Athletics Centre the University of Guelph Gryphons men's volleyball play host to the Nipissing Lakers for the second time in as many nights. In a tense, tightly contested match the Gryphons fell 3 sets to 1, dropping the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23 before winning the third 26-24. The final set was a back-and-forth affair before the Lakers took over in the second half, ultimately winning 25-18.
The Gryphons were led by All-Star and All-Canadian talent
Jonathan Pickett on Saturday night, with the left side hitter from Wiarton, Ontario, tallying 16 kills and 18 of the Gryphs 57 points on the night. Also playing a big role in the match was veteran team captain
Arjun Selhi. The Mississauga native finished the night with 7 kills and 8 points. Finally, a pair of Gryphon setters played important roles with

Jack Richards totaling a combined 35 kill assists with Richards adding 3 kills. It was a tough loss for the Gryphons, who fall to 1-1 on the season after defeating the Lakers on Friday night 3-1, with both teams playing well enough to win. The second and third sets were the hardest fought of the night, where either team could have emerged with the win.
The Gryphons (1-1) will look to get back in the win column on Friday (Nov. 11) when they welcome the Brock Badgers to town in the first game of a home-and-home series. The match is set for an 8pm start at the Gryphons Athletics Centre, and can be seen live online at
