GUELPH, Ont. – For the second time in as many nights the Guelph Gryphons women's volleyball team took the court at the Gryphon Athletic Centre. On Saturday night (Nov. 26) the Gryphons played host to the York Lions and were looking to bounce back after a hard-fought 3-2 loss the night before to the Waterloo Warriors.

After responding well to the Lions strong set starts, the Gryphons would ultimately fall too far behind in the second half of sets, losing 3-0 to fall to 3-5 on the season.
After falling behind early in the first set the Gryphons would go on a scoring run of their own to tie things at 13 just past the midway point. The visiting Lions would go on a 5-0 run to take an 18-13 lead and would hold that lead for the rest of the set winning 25-20. The second set saw as similar turn of events with the Lions opening with a 9-2 run before the Gryphons would respond and pull within one. Like the opening set York would then take over, taking the second set by 10 points 25-15. The Gryphons would play their closest set in the third, trading scores with the Lions until the two teams would come to a 20-20 tie. The Lions would then close out the set and match with a 5-0 run.
The Gryphons were led by
Sophie Fernback who accounted for 11 points and tallying 11 kills.
Sarah McNames led the Gryphons in blocks with 2 solo one while
Ella Carter led the Gryphs in kill assists with 15.
The Gryphons will look to bounce back next Friday (Dec. 2) and Saturday (Dec. 3) when they head to Toronto to take on the Toronto Metropolitan Bold. The two games are both slated for 6pm starts and can be seem live at
