ITHACA, New York – The Gryphons men's hockey team have made their way south of the border for the weekend, taking on three Ivy League schools in exhibition play in Cornell, Dartmouth and Harvard. Thursday night marked the first of the three NCAA matchups, with the Gryphons travelling to Ithaca, New York to face the Cornell Big Red at Lynah Rink. Cornell came out hard with a four-goal, 1st period. The Gryphons were unable to recover from the slow start, with Cornell skating to an 8-1 victory.
Cornell started the game off fast and hard jumping on the Gryphons right away with an early goal. The Big Red maintained momentum for most of the first period, scoring 3 more goals and taking a 4-0 lead over the visiting Gryphons.
The Gryphons finished off the first period with a dominating powerplay that did not produce any goals but was able to build some momentum in the Gryphons' favour, they came back in the second period with a stronger effort and
Ted McGeen was able to get a shot past the Cornell netminder from distance. But, Cornell continued to flex their offensive muscle, scoring 3 more on the Gryphons to take a 7-1 lead. The Gryphons continued to improve on their play in the third period but Cornell added one more to come away with the victory. The Gryphons travel to New Hampshire Friday to take on Dartmouth in their second game of this weekend's road trip. The NCAA tour will wrap up on Sunday in Boston when the Gryphons take on Harvard.
