KINGSTON, Ont. - Friday afternoon at Nixon Field in Kingston, the Guelph Gryphons women's rugby team picked up a 32-12 victory over the StFX X-Women in consolation semifinal play at the 2021 U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championships. After falling to the Victoria Vikes on Wednesday, the OUA champion Gryphons were right back in action on Friday with an 11am match versus the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) champions. After the X-Women were able to jump out to a 7-0 lead, the Gryphons would score 32 unanswered points, with

Hannah Beaumont's 50-metre run for a try in the 14th minute help turn momentum in the Gryphons favour, with Guelph taking a 17-7 lead into halftime. The Gryphons now advance to the U SPORTS consolation final on Sunday morning (10am) where they will face the Canada West champions, the UBC Thunderbirds. UBC, who lost their opening match at nationals to the host Queen's Gaels, defeated Acadia on Friday afternoon to book a spot versus Guelph in the consolation final.
