MVB: Gryphons Roll Past Paladins in Straight Sets

GUELPH, Ont. – A pair of W's was exactly what the shorthanded Guelph Gryphons men's volleyball team needed. A night after pulling off one of the bigger upsets of the OUA season, the Gryphons kept their momentum going. Guelph made quick work of the visiting RMC Paladins Saturday night, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-10 and 25-14) at the GGAC to improve to 6-4.

Jakson Paterson had one of the best games of his collegiate career Friday when Guelph took down the No. 10 Queen's Gaels and he kept the level high with 9 kills and 5 blocks. New setter Gideon Dresser paced the team with 24 assists and added 6 digs to help the hosts win their third straight.

The Gryphons distanced themselves from the Paladins in the second and third sets, allowing just 24 combined points as the visitors struggled with errors and failed to handle the hosts' polished attack. Guelph had to battle to take the first set but scored five straight points to begin the second. And the team never looked back. The Gryphons hit .419 in that set, recording 14 kills and just two errors.

That theme continued in the third and final set as RMC hung in there early but committed a service error that spurred a 10-1 run for the confident Gryphons.

Gryphon Take
"Another great night for Jak Paterson. He lead us with stuff blocks and kills. Ben Kissack was outstanding on defense. First year player Arjun Selhi played really well in the middle. First year setter Gideon Dresser did an outstanding job running the offense as well as getting two thunderous kills." – head coach Cal Wigston
