TORONTO, Ont. - Saturday afternoon at the University of Toronto, the Guelph Gryphons women's volleyball team suffered a 3-sets-to-1 loss to the No. 8-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. Set scores were 15-25, 25-21, 19-25 & 16-25.
The Gryphons, playing in their first OUA fixture since November 24, got off to a slow start against the perennial OUA powerhouse U of T squad, as the Varsity Blues jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the technical timeout en route to taking the opening set 25-15 over the visiting Gryphs.
Guelph would respond in a big way in the 2nd set, however, taking the set 25-21 to even the match at a set apiece.
The host Varsity Blues would re-take control of the match from that point on, taking the 3rd set 25-19 before clinching the match by taking the fourth set 25-16. With the win, the Varsity Blues improve to 8-2 on the season while Guelph falls to 4-5.
Gryphon Take:
"We were not consistent enough to get the win today. Toronto played very good defence against us and we were not able to match their execution through most of the match." ~
Gryphons head coach Paul Funk
