PETERBOROUGH, ON - Friday night at the Trent Athletics Centre in Peterborough, the Gryphons women's volleyball team picked up a straight sets victory over the Trent Excalibur. Set scores were 28-26, 25-19 & 25-11. With the result, the Gryphons improve to 12-6 on the season, while the Trent Excalibur fall to 4-14.
Friday night's match marked the first of a two-game, weekend road trip to close out the regular season schedule for the playoff-bound Gryphons. Despite Trent's sub-.500 record, the Excalibur gave Guelph all they could handle in a tight opening set. The Gryphons would come out on top 28-26 and would take control of the match from there. Rookie setter
Alexandra Curran (Aurora, ON) came off the bench and helped provide the Gryphons with a spark in the 2nd set, finishing the night with 15 assists and 4 digs.
Maddie Dedecker led all scorers with 14 points (11 kills, 3 aces) while
Libby Donevan finished with 10 points.
The Gryphons will close out their regular season schedule Saturday night against the No. 1-ranked team in Canada in the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. The Gryphons will be looking to do something that no other OUA school has this season: defeat the Varsity Blues. U of T enters Saturday night's matchup with a perfect 18-0 record on the season.
