TORONTO, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons field hockey team booked a spot in the OUA Semi-fiinals on Friday afternoon, thanks to a commanding 11-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors in a Quarter-final matchup at York University.
The Gryphons, seeded No. 2 in the OUA Championship tournament, scored six times in the opening half and never looked back. Second year midfielder
Kayla Magarelli led the way for the Gryphons with a hat trick, while
Maria Murray and
Alexa Corrado scored two goals apiece.
Melissa Vogl,
Alice Stubbings,
Danielle Crumpton and
Olivia Finch chipped in with one goal each to round out the scoring.

Magarelli's three goals earned her the player of the game award for the Gryphons, who advance to face the three-time defending OUA champion Toronto Varsity Blues at 11am on Saturday. Both head-to-head meetings between the Gryphons and Varsity Blues during the regular season ended in 1-1 ties.Â
