TORONTO, ON - Sunday afternoon at the Canlan Ice Sports arena on the campus of York University, the Gryphons men's hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to the division-leading Lions. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 10-8-0 on the season while York improves to 13-5-2 and sit in top spot in the OUA's West Division.
After a scoreless opening period of play, York would explode for three goals in the second period to take a commanding leading heading into the final 20 minutes of play. With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, Gryphons second year forward
Rob Lepine would score his team-leading 12th goal of the season to spoil the shutout, but the York Lions would come out on top of a 3-1 score line for the second time in as many meetings with the Gryphons this season. The Gryphons outshot the Lions 30-29 on the afternoon.
The Gryphons now boast a 3-7-0 road record this season, but will return home for a Thursday night game with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. The Gryphons are an impressive 7-1-0 on home ice this season and Thursday's game (Jan. 12) will see the Gryphons debut special alternate jerseys in what will be the inaugural edition of the Gryphons "
