HAMILTON, ON - Wednesday night in Hamilton, the Gryphons women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the top ranked team in the country in the McMaster Marauders. In the end, the Marauders would use a big 3rd quarter en route to a 72-56 win. The Gryphons were outscored 18-8 in the 3rd quarter. In the other three quarters combined, the Gryphons trailed by just six points against the No. 1-ranked Marauders. With Wednesday night's loss, the Gryphons fall to 0-5 on the season while the Marauders improve to 4-0.
A trio of Gryphon players scored in double figures led by second year guard
Sarah Holmes (Welland, ON) who racked up 18 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Second year forward
Ashley Wheeler (Stratford, ON) chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds while
Samantha Renshaw added 10 points and was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
The Gryphons knocked down a season-high five three-pointers on the night and shot a season-best 36.7% from the floor.
The Gryphons now just have one game remaining on their schedule before breaking for exams/Christmas and will host the York Lions (0-3) on Saturday, December 3rd at 6pm.
