WHKY: Gryphons Beat Queen's, Sweep Weekend Road Trip

KINGSTON, ON - The Gryphons women's hockey team capped off a successful weekend by picking up a 3-1 win over the Queen's Gaels on Sunday afternoon in Kingston. It was the team's second road win in as many days after earning a 4-2 win over Ryerson in Toronto a day earlier.

After Queen's jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a power play goal seven minutes into the opening period on Sunday, the No. 6-ranked Gryphons would answer back with a power play marker of their own. With 4:35 remaining in the 1st period, Katherine Bailey's point shot through traffic would find the back of the net for her second goal of the season. With less than a minute remaining in the 1st, the Gryphons would strike again. Rookie Sydney Davison made a beautiful move in the neutral zone, slipping the puck through the legs of a Queen's defender to send herself in on a partial breakaway. Davison would then fire home a shot low, blocker side for her fourth goal of the season to give the Gryphons a 2-1 lead heading to the 2nd.

That 2-1 lead would hold up until Sophie Contant's empty net goal late in the 3rd. After being given the day off on Saturday versus Ryerson, Gryphons star goalie Valerie Lamenta was back in net on Sunday versus Queen's. The reigning CIS Player of the Year turned aside 24 of the 25 shots sent her way to earn the win.

The Gryphons improve to 4-1-1 (wins-losses-OTlosses) while Queen's falls to 3-3-0.

Up next for the Gryphons, a home matchup with the York Lions on Thursday, Nov. 3rd.
