MSCR: Lions score three 2nd half goals, beat Gryphons 4-2

TORONTO, ON - Wednesday night at York University, the No. 7-ranked Gryphons men's soccer team suffered a 4-2 loss versus the No. 3-ranked York Lions. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 9-2-2 (wins-losses-draws) on the season while York improves to 11-0-2. The Gryphons now sit six points back of York for first place in the OUA West division with three games remaining in the regular season schedule.

When these two teams met earlier this season in Guelph, they appeared to be headed for a draw until a stoppage time goal from York on a free kick lifted the Lions to a 2-1 victory. On Wednesday night, just as he had done in the first meeting with York back in September, Gryphons second year forward Tomasz Skublak once again put the Gryphons in front 1-0. In the 6th minute of play, Skublak put the Gryphons in front with his 9th goal of the season. After York tied the game at 1-1 in the 29th minute, the Gryphons re-took the lead in the 40th on Jace Kotsopoulos' OUA-leading 13th goal of the season as the Gryphons took a 2-1 lead into the half.

However, finding a way to close out the three-time defending OUA champions once again was an issue as York would go on to score three unanswered goals in the second half, one of which came via a penalty, to beat the Gryphons 4-2.

The Gryphons will next be in action on Saturday, October 15th when they travel to St. Catharines to face the Brock Badgers (2-6-4).
