Oshawa, ON – The defending OUA Champion and CIS Bronze medalist Gryphons Men's Hockey team started out their 2015 preseason schedule with a 5-2 win over UOIT on Sunday in Oshawa. The Gryphons found themselves trailing 1-0 after the opening period and tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. In the third period, the Gryphons would pull away, scoring three times to win it by a final score of 5-2.
In his first game as a Gryphon,
Dylan Gilbert (Oakville, ON) scored twice. Other goal scorers for the Gryphons were
Lenny Fabbri,
Kyle Neuber and
Rob DeFulviis. The Gryphons outshot the Ridgebacks 35-29 on the night. Guelph goalies Chris McDougall and Scott Stajcer split the game, with the win going to Stajcer.
The Gryphons will continue their preseason schedule on Thursday (Sept. 17) when they head to St. Catherines for the Steel Blade preseason tournament. The Gryphons will face Brock on Thursday night, Windsor Saturday night, and will play again Sunday afternoon if they are in the top two.
