Guelph, ON – On a rain Friday night at the University of Guelph's Rugby Pitch, the Gryphons Women's Rugby team opened up their 2015 season with a resounding 125-0 win over the Brock Badgers.
Of Guelph's 19 tries in the match, 11 came from different players.
Alexandra King had a busy night as she made 15 conversions while
Daria Keane (Sarnia, ON) and
Kendra Blackbourn (Georgetown, ON) each recorded three tries apiece. This marks the second straight season in which there was a lopsided outcome between these two teams as last year, the Gryphons shutout Brock 72-0 in the final game of the regular season schedule.
The Gryphons next match will come against last year's CIS Bronze medalists in the Western Mustangs. In their only meeting with Western last season, the Gryphons came out on top of a hard-fought 11-10 score line. The Gryphons and Mustangs will square off on Saturday, September 19 at 1pm on the Gryphons home pitch.
