Guelph, ON – Friday night in Montreal the Gryphons Women's Hockey team opened up the preseason portion of their schedule with a 3-0 victory over the McGill Martlets. Goal scorers for the Gryphons were
Kaitlin Lowy,
Marcie Landman and
Kelly Gribbons.
Stephanie Nehring picked up the shutout in net.
With around six minutes remaining in the opening period, the Gryphons would open the scoring on the power play thanks to some great puck movement.
Christine Grant and
Leigh Shilton would move it around nicely before second year sniper Kaitlin Lowy would give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead.
The score would stay that way until the third period when third year forward Marcie Landman (Drayton, ON) would push the Gryphons lead to 2-0 on a beautiful shot. Leigh Shilton picked up her second assist of the night on the goal. Later in the period Kelly Gribbons (Port Elgin, ON) would put the game out of reach as she was sent in all alone before going to the backhand giving the Gryphons a comfortable 3-0 lead. Goalie Steph Nehring made 16 saves for the shutout.
The Gryphons will stay in Montreal to face the Carabins on Saturday, September 12 with puck drop scheduled for 4pm. After that, they will return home and continue their preseason schedule with a home game against Laurier on Saturday, September 19.
