Box Score
Waterloo, ON - Friday night in Waterloo the Gryphons Women's Soccer team lost 1-0 to the No. 5-ranked team in the country in the Laurier Golden Hawks (11-2-2). With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 6-9-0 with one game remaiing on the season.
Â
The lone goal of the match came following a border line foul that was called against the Gryphons. On the ensuing set piece, the Golden Hawks would take a 1-0 lead thanks to a beautiful header from from Laurier's rookie forward
Gagan Parhar (Surrey, BC) which was sent into the back of the net just out of the reach of an out-stretched Libby Brenneman (Baden, ON). Although they were kept off the score sheet on the night, the Gryphons had several impressive performances in the attacking third, led by their own impressive forward in
Hayley Howes. Howes returned to the Guelph starting 11 after missing significant time with a sprained MCL. Friday night against the Hawks Hayley came close on several different occasions. Gryphons third year striker
Meredith Langston was also all over the field helping to create chances, while second year defenders
Allison Clouse and
Andrea Cimino were solid at the back, ensuring Laurier's lead would not grow any further. With just one game remaining on their regular season schedule, the Gryphons find themselves in a hunt for the final playoff spot in the OUA West division. If the Gryphons can come away with a draw or a win in their final match of the season (Sunday, Oct. 25 at McMaster) they will guarantee themselves a spot in the postseason. Should the Gryphons lose to the Marauders Sunday afternoon, they can still qualify for the playoffs with a Brock loss to Laurier. There is even still an outside chance that Guelph could be hosting a first round playoff matchup should they secure the three points versus McMaster and get some help elsewhere.

Kickoff for their regular season finale is scheduled for 1pm in Hamilton on Sunday.
