MHKY: Gryphons drop first of two big weekend games in Thunder Bay

Box Score
Thunder Bay, ON – The Gryphons men's hockey team lost 8-2 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night in Thunder Bay.  Both of these teams are fighting for the final playoff spot in the OUA's West Division.  With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 8-13-3 and now sit just one point behind Lakehead (9-13-2).  These two teams will play again in Thunder Bay on Saturday night (Jan. 31) at 7:30pm.

The Gryphons trailed 2-0 after the first period and 6-2 after two periods.  Things also got chippy with a total of five 10 minute misconducts issued out on the night (three to Lakehead, two to Guelph).

The Gryphons still control their own destiny with three games remaining on their regular season schedule.  After another meeting with Lakehead on Saturday, they return home for their final two games against a pair of teams just outside the Top 10 in the CIS.  The Gryphons host Western (17-6-1) on Thursday, February 5th then close out the regular season schedule against the Waterloo Warriors (16-6-2) on Saturday, February 7th.
