Hamilton, Ont. (September 6, 2014) – The Gryphon women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 final for their first loss of the regular season to the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. Guelph's record moves to 2-1 on the season.
Guelph struck first when
Jacqueline Goulart of Mississauga, Ont. earned her second of the season on a rebound from a good save by the McMaster goalkeeper. McMaster tied the scored on a penalty after the ball hit the hand of a Guelph player in Guelph's penalty area. The score was tied at the half.
The Gryphons came out strong in the second but lost momentum when McMaster scored on a corner kick against the run of play. The team regained momentum and pressed hard to tie the score, hitting the crossbar and forcing the McMaster goalkeeper to make an outstanding save on a shot by
Breanna Hall of Kanata, Ont. from close range.
The Gryphons host the defending OUA champion Laurier Golden Hawks tomorrow at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
