Guelph 3, Brock 0

Guelph, Ont. (September 28, 2014) - The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team shutout the Brock Badgers 3-0 at home today at the Gryphons Soccer Complex in Guelph. The 3-0 victory moves the Gryphons to 4-5-1 on the season while the Badgers drop to 3-8.

The Gryphons effective passing began with their defensive line and Bianca Ferlisi (Woodbridge, Ont.) helping to push the ball up the field. The Gryphons had several chances to score in the first several minutes. Brock's starting goalie, Meaghan Buckingham, was ejected from the game in the 21st minute after a handball out of her crease. Guelph was able to score off of a penalty kick in the 27th minute thanks to rookie Jacqueline Goulart (Mississauga, Ont.), quickly followed by a second goal in the 29th minute as Breanna Hall (Kanata, Ont.) capitalized on a pass in front of the net from Goulart.

Guelph maintained their lead in the second half, scoring a third goal in the 50th minute from Danielle Canhoto (Georgetown, Ont.). Continuing to push to the net and keep the play in Brock's end, the Gryphons did not score again but had a total of 16 shots on net throughout the game.

Gryphon goalier Elizabeth Brenneman (Baden, Ont.) earned the shutout with two saves in the winning effort.

The Gryphons will travel to play the York Lions next Saturday (October 4), scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
