Gryphons Lose Heartbreaker at Steel Blade

Brock 4 – Guelph 3

Guelph, Ont. (September 21, 2014) – The Guelph Gryphons lost a heartbreaker 4-3 to the Brock Badgers in the final of the Steel Blade tournament on Sunday in St. Catherines.  In a hard fought contest that featured lopsided powerplays to Brock, the Badgers scored the winning goal with just over a minute left in the contest.

The Gryphons came out flying in the first period and scored early on a nifty play finished by Nick Huard (North Bay) set up by William Cochrane (Terrebonne, Que.).  That was followed by a quick release shot by Trevor Morbeck (Jackson, Wis.) that found the back of the net on a pass from Mac Nichol (Listowel). Steve Strong (Oakville) continued his impressive pre-season with a one timer set up by Carlos Amestoy (Toronto).

The Badgers scored a couple in the second period on a pair from Greg Jambrosich to draw to 3-2 after two periods.

In the third Andrew Radjanovic scored to tie it and Dylan MacEchern batted a puck out of the air in the dying moments for the win. Andrew D'Agostini (Scarborough) carried the load for the Gryphons while Real Cormier played in nets for the Badgers.

After completing a grueling four games in four days the Gryphons will get some well deserved rest before heading on the road again Sat. Sept. 27 when they are in North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers at 7:30 P.M.
