Guelph, Ont. (September 17, 2014) – The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 final Wednesday to the No. 5 York Lions Wednesday at the Gryphons Soccer Complex. The Gryphons fall to 2-5 on the season while the Lions remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year.

The teams were evenly matched, with possession going back and forth in the first half. Despite a shot off the goalpost in the ninth minute for Guelph, neither team was able to score in the first half.

The Lions were the first to score in the 53rd minute with a shot into the bottom left corner of the net by Samantha Marini. York dominated the play until Guelph made several substitutions in the 65th and 80th minutes of play, bringing
Meredith Langston (Aurora, Ont.) and
Jacqueline Goulart (Mississauga, Ont.) into the game. The fresh players made a difference as the play moved mostly into York's end but unfortunately, Guelph was still unable to score.

Holly Miller (Oakville, Ont.) made eight saves throughout the game. Lions keeper Courtney Davis made one save in the win.
