Guelph, Ont. (August 30, 2014) – The Gryphon women's soccer team opened their 2014 regular season in style, shutting out the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. Gryphon third-yea striker Breanna Hall led the team with a pair of goals. All three goals were scored in the first half.

Hall scored the first season goal in the 32nd minute of play with a header, quickly followed by her second goal of the season. Jacqueline Goulart kept the pressure on with the Gryphons` third goal of the game in the 40th minute.

The Gryphons defense did an excellent job of shutting down the Warriors, only allowing one shot on net the entire game while the potent Gryphon offence tallied nine shots on net.

Guelph maintained their lead in the second half and played a strong offensive game, keeping most of the play in the Warriors' end.

Rookie Holly Miller stood tall in net for the Gryphons and earned the win.

With the first win of the season under their belts, the Gryphons are on the road tomorrow playing the Brock Badgers in St. Catharine's at 1:00 p.m.
