Kingston, Ont. (February 21, 2014) – Christine Grant cored in double overtime to lift the Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the Queens Gaels on Friday night in Kingston, Ont. The third and deciding game of the series will move back to the Gryphon Centre on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Stephanie Nehring made 21 saves in the win for the Gryphons. Mel Dodd-Mohr made 25.

The opening period saw the two teams pick up right where they left off, deadlocked in a defensive battle.

The two goalies were the story of the opening period, Queen's Dodd-Moher stopped all seven shots. Queens had multiple powerplay opportunities including a full minute of five-on-three play, however they couldn't get past Nehring.

After the Gaels killed off two penalties in the second the scoreless game remained.

THe third period saw a more offensive game kick in and it was the Gaels Alisha Sealey who would fire a pass towards the front of the Gryphon net that Shawna Griffin deflected pass Nehring. Griffin scored the overtime winner in game 1 in Guelph.

It almost looked as if the series was over, but in the dying minutes the Gryphons turned on all the offensive pressure. With their goalie pulled Jessica Pinkerton got her first of the playoffs with only 36 seconds left shooting a loose puck in front past Dodd-Moher.

For the second straight game the teams headed to overtime. The ten minute opening overtime period ended with no goals and four Queen's shots to the Gryphons three.

At 3:25 Christine Grant  walked in over the blue line and fired a shot over the glove of Dodd-Moher to give the Gryphons the win.
