Box Score Gryphons 7 – Brock 3
St. Catherine's, Ont. – Second year forward
Teal Burns (Victoria, B.C.) recorded a hat-trick as the Gryphons picked up their second straight win to improve to 2-3-1 on the young season. The seven goals scored were a season-high for the Gryphons (in both preseason and regular season play) as they dropped the Brock Badgers to 0-3 on the season.
The top line for the Gryphons was firing on all cylinders Friday night. After rookie
Trevor Morbeck (Jackson, MS) opened the scoring on the power play,
Nicklas Huard (North Bay, Ont.) would set up Teal Burns for his first goal of the night to make it 2-0 Gryphons. Exactly four minutes later, those two would hook up again to give Burns his second of the night and to give Guelph a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
In the 2
nd, the Gryphons would extend their lead to 5-1 after goals from Morbeck, his second of the night, and
Kyle Neuber (Sarnia, Ont.). But the Badgers would make a push to get back into the game in the 3
rd. A pair of power play goals from Brock made it a 5-3 game, but that is as close as they would get. With just under two minutes to go, Huard would record his third point of the night, scoring to give Guelph a 6-3 lead. Burns would then complete the hat-trick with an empty net goal as the Gryphons would win it 7-3. Rookie goalie
Andrew D'Agostini (Scarborough, Ont.) made 35 saves in the win. Up next for the Gryphon men's hockey team, a trip to Kingston next Friday (Oct. 24) to take on the Queen's Gaels.
