Waterloo, Ont. - The Gryphon women's soccer team fell just short Wednesday (Oct. 16) afternoon at Laurier, losing 2-1 to the No. 7 Laurier Golden Hawks.
The loss drops the Gryphons to 6-7-1 on the season while Laurier moves to 11-1-3 and sits atop the OUA West division.
With two regular season games left in the schedule the Gryphons currently sit fifth overall in the West. The top six teams in each conference qualify for the

playoffs.Â
Trailing 1-0 in the 73rd minute, Guelph rookie forward
Kristina Strojin (St. Catherine's, Ont.) would equalize for the Gryphons, scoring her fifth goal of the season. Â But it would not stay that way for long. Just eight minutes later, Kassia Hayek would score what would prove to be the winner as the Golden Hawks would escape with a 2-1 victory. Â
Gryphon keeper
Elizabeth Brenneman (Baden, Ont.) made eight saves in the loss for the Gryphons.Â
It was a tremendous effort by the Gryphons who will now face another tough test when they travel to London this Saturday (Oct. 18) to take on the Mustangs (11-2-1). Earlier this season the Mustangs shutout the Gryphons with a final score of 2-0. The Gryphons return home Sunday (Oct. 19) to host Windsor in their last regular season game of the year at 1:00 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.Â
