Windsor, Ont. (October 1, 2014) – A high scoring third period saw the Windsor Lancers outlast the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team 4-2 in Wednesday night's 2014 season opening loss in Windsor. The Lancers outshot Guelph 17-7 in the third period, scoring three goals to Guelph's one, en route to the victory.
Gryphon rookie
William Cochrane (Lorraine, Que) would lead the Gryphons in his rookie debut with a goal and an assist on the night.
Reilly O'Connor (Penticton, B.C.) scored the only goal of the opening period as the Gryphons held a 1-0 lead until late in the second period. Windsor answered back in the second period with a goal from Spencer Pommells to end the second period tied at one.
Windsor went ahead 2-1 to open the third period seven minutes in.
Cochrane would tie things up on the power play by scoring in his first game in a Gryphons uniform. However, the Lancers would answer back just over two minutes later to take a 3-2 lead, before eventually adding an empty netter.
Second year goalie
Keith Hamilton (Kelowna, B.C.) was busy in net for the Gryphons, turning away 32 of the 35 shots sent his way.
The Gryphons will return home for their home opener on Friday, October 3rd versus the York Lions before hitting the road again on Saturday for an exhibition with the Ohio State Buckeyes down in Columbus, Ohio.
