 Womens Hockey OUA Quarterfinals vs. UOIT Gallery
GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon women's hockey team shutout the UOIT Ridgebacks tonight 4-0 at the Gryphon Centre in game one of the OUA quarterfinal best-of-three series.
The second game of the series will now move to Oshawa on Friday night (Feb. 15). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. If a third game is needed the Gryphons will return home to Guelph and host the final game of the series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Stephanie Nehring earned the shutout for the Gryphons making 13 saves in the win.
Gryphon goals were scored by Jessica Pinkerton, Amanda Parkins, Averi Nooren and Kaitlyn Mora.
The Gryphons came out strong keeping good offence with quick turnarounds when it was necessary. Guelph took the Ridgebacks by surprise withÂ
Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, ON) getting a breakaway goal at centre ice only six minutes into the period to take a 1-0 lead. This awoke the Ridgebacks who then came on aggressively on offence. Mid-way in the period the Ridgebacks attempted a 'top shelf' shot but Gryphon goalie Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, ON) stood tall and made the save. To finish the period the Gryphons outshot the Ridgebacks 7-4.
The second period was exciting as both sides fought for the win.Â
Amanda Parkins (Kitchener, ON) scored with just over five minutes remaining in the second on a beautiful shot through the butterfly hole in UOIT's goalie with assistance from Jessica Pinkerton andÂ

Averi Nooren (Aylmer, ON) scored in the third period at 9:07 to give the Gryphons a 3-0 lead. Guelph kept up a good pace in the period and continued to battle for the puck.Â
Kaitlyn Mora(Guelph, ON) made an effort to get the puck in but was tripped on her way to the net causing a penalty shot in which she scored with ease.
Guelph outshot UOIT 31 shots to 13. Game two of the series is Friday night in Oshawa, puck drops at 7:30pm.
