Bell leads Gryphons to 5-2 win over York

The Guelph Gryphon women's hockey team defeated the York Lions 5-2 this afternoon in York.

In the first period only 14 seconds into the game Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.) fed Erin Small (Pickering, Ont.) a beautiful pass in front of the net that she buried. Guelph kept up the pressure and capitalized on the power play only three minutes later. Kim Wong (Mississauga, Ont.) passed it down to Emily Corbett (Toronto), who took a shot, which Bell was able to tip it top corner. Guelph didn't sit back and continued to dominate with Sam Ryder (North Vancouver, BC) getting the Guelph's third goal of the night. Rookie Tori Head (Kanata, Ont.) and Kandace Charbonneau (Guelph, Ont.) got the helpers.

The next periods saw more back and forth action, but Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, Ont.) was able to hold off the majority of Yorks attacks stopping 26 of 28 shots. Bell got her second of the game in the second period with assists going Small and Katie Mora (Guelph, Ont.).

With 30 seconds left York pulled their goalie and Jackie Sollis (West Vancouver, BC) took it upon herself to finish York off, going end to end and getting the empty netter.

The Gryphons next play Laurier (Feb. 11) in Waterloo. Puck drops at 7:30PM.
