The Gryphons women's hockey team traveled to Kingston to take on the Gaels and walked away with a 4-0 win.
The win advances the Gryphons to 15-4-1 while the loss drops the Gaels to 10-6-3.
The Gryphons' Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, ON) got the win and shutout for Guelph stopping 30 shots. Nehring extends her shutout streak to 126 minutes and six seconds after coming off of a 4-0 shutout win over the Windsor Lancers. Brittney Crawford (Guelph, ON) had two goals for the Gryphons. Mel Dodd-Mohler (Ottawa) made 19 saves for the Gaels in a losing effort.
Guelph opened the scoring 9 minutes into the first on a power play goal by Erin Small (Pickering, ON) with assists going to Tori Head (Katana, ON) and Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, ON).
In the second Brittney Crawford got hot netting two goals, with assists going to Michelle Sabourin, Hillary Walsh, Kristen Nixon and Pinkerton.
With a dominating first two periods Guelph came out a little flat in the third, but Nehring made some amazing saves to keep the lead and earn her second shutout of the year. With six minutes left in the third Sam Ryder (North Vancouver, BC), who had a strong game was able to capitalize on a turnover of a Queens defender. Sabourin was credited with her second assist of the game.
The Gryphons return to action Thursday, January 26 when they take on the Varsity Blues at home at 7:30 p.m.
