Gryphons bested 3-1 by Golden Hawks

The Guelph Gryphon women's soccer team lost to a very strong Laurier Golden Hawks team this afternoon by a final score of 3-1 in Waterloo.

The Gryphons came out strong and for the first 20 minutes the play was even between the two teams until Laurier took advantage of a Guelph turnover in its own third and went up 1-0.  Laurier added another goal shortly thereafter and the first half ended with the Golden Hawks up 2-0.

Midway through the second half Guelph's Heather Kendall (Newmarket, Ont.) scored on a penalty resulting from a foul on Guelph's Rachel Rennick (Toronto) inside the WLU 18 yard box. About 10 minutes from full time Laurier scored its third goal on an excellent long range shot that eluded the Gryphon goalkeeper, Megan Klimas (Russell, Ont.) who prior to that goal made a number of very good saves.

The Gryphons will rest up this week and next face the Brock Badgers on Sunday, September 11 in Guelph's home opener to take place at the new Gryphon Soccer Complex.
