Marauders Hot Shooting Keeps Gryphons at Bay 96-92

Guelph's Micheal Petrella

McMaster's Victor Raso opened the second half with a three pointer, and the Gryphon's found themselves playing catch up for the rest of the game, ultimately falling short.

The Guelph Gryphons fell to the McMaster Marauders 96-92 Saturday afternoon at the W.F. Mitchell Centre. With the loss, the Gryphons fell to 8-12 on the season, with McMaster advancing to 11-9.

Leading the Gryphons was Jonathan Moscatelli, who netted a game high 28 points. Dan McCarthy added 23, while Michael Petrella had 17 points to go with his game high 14 assists.

The Marauders were led by Kenan Etales 26 points, with Raso scoring 22 points on 5-9 shooting from three.

The Gryphons opened up the first quarter 21-14 with balanced scoring and good ball movement. The Gryphons were forced to utilize a guard heavy line-up, which helped the Gryphons maintain strong ball movement.

The second quarter saw the Marauders take the lead, starting the quarter with a 7-3 run to make it a three point game. They continued to chip away, ultimately taking a 44-41 halftime lead. Etale led the Marauders with 16 points, while Moscatelli countered with 14 for the Gryphons.

The third quarter saw Raso light it up from three point range. In the quarter, Raso scored 11 points, while the Gryphons continued to keep the game close, never trailing by more than four in the quarter.

Guelph hoped to turn the game around in the fourth quarter, bringing the game to a tie midway on a Moscotelli three. The Marauders always had an answer however, and Guelph was never able to take the lead. McMaster closed out the game with a 5-0 run to give them a 91-86 lead that they would not relinquish.

Guelph will look to turn their fortune around when they take on the Brock Badgers Wednesday night in St. Catharines. Tipoff is scheduled for 8pm.
