The women's hockey team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks tonight 8-1 on the road in Oshawa. Guelph's power play was on fire tonight going 6-for-10. First-year Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, Ont.) led the way with a hat trick. The Gryphons advance to 11-3-1 on the season.
Guelph started off a little slow with UOIT leading 12-4 in shots. Kate Mora (Guelph, Ont.) and Victori Head (Kanata, Ont.) were able to find the net, with assists going to Erin Small (Pickering, Ont.) and Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.
The score ended up 2-1 after the first, but Guelph decided to come out and play their game in the second recording 20 shots and goals in that period. Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, Ont.) who had an amazing performance sniped a power play goal with helpers going to Kim Wong (Mississauga, Ont.) and Emily Corbett (Toronto). Bell, Small and Pinkerton each capitalized in the second.
Pinkerton was the story in the third getting two power play goals to get her second hat trick of the season. Net minder Brooke Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) had a strong performance stopping 29 of 30 shots.
