The Brock Badgers defeated the Guelph Gryphons 4-3 tonight in overtime on the road.
Â
Guelph got off to a very slow start with Brock dominating most of the first period. Second year goalie, Brooke Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) made a few key saves to keep it scoreless after the first.
Â
Just three minutes into the second Erin Small (Pickering, Ont.) continued her scoring streak getting a short handed breakaway. Guelph continued to put pressure on Brock and five minutes later Katie Mora (Guelph, Ont.) finally scored her first of the year on the power play. Kim Wong (Mississauga, Ont.) and Brittney Crawford (Guelph, Ont.) assisted. With. 2-0 lead Guelph relaxed a little, but Brock answered right evening up the score before the end of the second.
Â
Only three minutes into the third Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, Ont.) showed her speed rushing the puck down the wing taking a quick wrister and Kristen Nixen (Durham, Ont.) was there to bury the rebound. But again Brock answered back halfway through the third. This would take the game to overtime.
Â
One minute into overtime on a very questionable call Emily Corbett (Toronto) was penalized with slashing. Brock would capitalize on this opportunity sending a shot top corner over Siddall's shoulder.
Â
The Gryphons return home this Sunday (Oct. 30) and host the York Lions at 2:00 p.m.
