Gryphons overcome late surge, defeat Windsor 3-2

The Guelph Gryphon women's soccer team defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-2 this afternoon at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.  The Gryphons advance to 5-6-2 on the season.

Guelph lead at half time 1-0 on a goal by Heather Kendall (Newmarket, Ont.) who received an excellent cross field pass from Jenny Dunn (West Vancouver, BC) and beat the Windsor goalkeeper with a well placed far post shot.  Guelph went up 2-0 in the first five minutes of the second half on a goal by Courtney Whiteside (Guelph, Ont.) who beat the Windsor goalkeeper after a strong 30 yard run.  Guelph went up 3-0 midway through the second half when Katie Casucci (Niagara Falls, Ont.) scored on an excellent long range shot that eluded the Windsor goalkeeper.

At that point Windsor threw many players forward and despite stalwart defending by the Gryphon back four, Windsor pulled two goal back to make the score 3-2 but it wasn't enough as the Gryphons held on for the victory.

Guelph is back in action tomorrow, hosting the Waterloo Warriors at 1:00 p.m. With a win against Waterloo, Guelph hopes to gain home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
