The Gryphon women's hockey team traveled to London this evening (Oct. 14) and took down the Mustangs 3-1.

The Gryphons advance to 2-1, while the Mustangs drop to 0-3.

After a scoreless first period, a Western player was able to sneak behind the Guelph defense and scored top corner on goalie Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, ON). Guelph had dominated the majority of the play until this point and was able to keep up the pressure. Finally Erin Small (Pickering, ON) was able answer scoring on a beautiful breakaway move with Jackie Sollis (West Vancouver, BC) getting the assist.

The score remained 1-1 until Small notched her second goal of the game with assists going to Sollis and Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, ON). With 1 minute 30 seconds left Sollis took a hooking penalty. Western pulled their goalie to out man Guelph, but Kim Wong (Mississauga, ON) played outstanding defence and out muscled two Western players to send the puck down into the open net. Small showed her dominance getting two goals and one assist.

The Gryphons hit the road on Saturday, October 15 to take on the Lancers. The puck drops at 4:10 p.m.Â
