The Guelph Gryphon women's soccer team took on the CIS. No 4 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks this afternoon (Oct. 13) at Alumni Stadium. The game finished 2-0 in Laurier's favour. Goals were scored by Golden Hawk's Julia Marchese (Oakville, ON) and Ali McKee (Bracebridge, ON).
This brings the Gryphons to a 1-6-4 standing, while the Golden Hawks improve to 9-1-2.
The Golden Hawks who sit first in the OUA West Division, dominated during the first half of the game. Marchese scored 12 minutes into the game after a penalty kick was deflected by Victoria Parker (Toronto, ON) and she was able to rebound a goal back into the net.
Then, in the 30th minute McKee scored the second goal for Laurier. Guelph's defence struggled to fight off Laurier's aggressive offensive line, who had six official shots on net in the first half alone. Meanwhile, Guelph had no official shots on Laurier's net.
The second half was relatively uneventful; Laurier maintained their lead and Guelph managed to fight off the Laurier offence to stop any more goals. Guelph had a couple official shots on net, an improvement from the first half.
The Gryphons play the Waterloo Warriors next on Oct. 17th in Waterloo. The game begins at 1pm.
