Gryphon Women's Hockey to Play in Headline Event at Sleeman Centre in Guelph
- Gryphons & Mustangs to play in first-ever Fall Faceoff powered by Brand Blvd. -
Guelph, Ont. – The University of Guelph Department of Athletics today announced a headline game, 'The Fall Faceoff' featuring the defending national champion Guelph Gryphons Women's Hockey team taking on the Western Mustangs on October 24, 2019 at the Sleeman Centre in downtown Guelph.
"We are pleased to be celebrating and showcasing the national championship women's hockey team in a signature event that will become an institutional tradition for our program moving forward," said University of Guelph Director of Athletics Scott McRoberts. "We've seen how successful the Frosty Mug has been and I'm confident that top-notch Gryphon women's hockey at the Sleeman Centre will make for another unforgettable experience."
Brand Blvd. Inc, a leading promotional firm in Southern Ontario will be the events inaugural title sponsor.

The game will match the 2018-19 U SPORTS champion Guelph Gryphons against the Western Mustangs with a puck drop of 7:00 p.m.
University of Guelph head women's hockey coach Rachel Flanagan echoed the excitement of bringing this type of experience to her student-athletes. "We're thrilled to be playing at the Sleeman Centre in the first-ever Fall Faceoff. The event will create a unique and special atmosphere for our players, parents, alumni and supporters especially our Junior Gryphons. We're looking forward to showcasing Gryphon women's hockey in front of our campus and City of Guelph community."
The Fall Faceoff will become the second headline event that Gryphon hockey features at the Sleeman Centre. "The Frosty Mug", an annual men's varsity hockey game will be playing in it's 11th year of the event this January 23, 2020 (7pm). The Frosty mug has become a chance for Junior Gryphons, students, alumni, families, faculty, staff and corporate partners to re-connect with the University of Guelph. Last season, a Frosty Mug crowd of 4,850 fans were in attendance.
"Hosting these headline games at the Sleeman Centre and in the heart of the City of Guelph is vital for Gryphon Athletics to further cultivating the connection between the Gryphons and the city. The support that we receive from the campus and the city as a whole continues to grow each year," commented McRoberts.
